CrossFit Orillia http://www.crossfitorillia.ca CrossFit Orillia--CrossFit Orillia en Copyright 2010 http://www.rssboard.org/rss-specification Clock Whore http://www.crossfitorillia.ca/blog.php?id=8252 I found this article from Hyperfit USA and I thought I would pass it on.

Definition of a Clock Whore: Person who is so obsessed with beating the clock/others that they will prostitute themselves and sacrifice important and vital components of training such as range of motion, repetitions or other performance metrics for a "better" time.

These people actually miss the whole point of the training. The point of physical fitness training, from my perspective, is to improve oneself both physically and mentally, not necessarily in that order. The people who have taken the time clock or score beyond the extreme and compromised range of motion, number of repetitions, etcetera are doing so at the expense of the utility of the training. If someone judges their performance solely based on their status relative to others it reflects a distinct lack of self esteem. The idea of the style training is to develop self-esteem to increase capacities in many, many different modalities. A person who compromises training in order to beat others harms their self esteem. People know inherently when they are doing something wrong and there is a price to pay when they go against what they know is right.

Way to go "Special K"! http://www.crossfitorillia.ca/blog.php?id=8179 Congratulations to Kayla "Special K" Casey for passing her recent EMT lift test.  Considering she can squat well over her body weight for a set of five, was there ever any doubt?

Keep crushing those challenges! http://www.crossfitorillia.ca/blog.php?id=7823 As the time runs out, many more people complete their individual challenges.  Congratulations to Amanda (5 pull-ups), Adam (6 consecutive muscle-ups) and Colleen for getting her first perfect push up!  Unfortunately, Maria missed her goal, but immediately took on her consequence and knocked out an amazing 200 burpees in just over 15 minutes!  Also, Marcus fell short of his 50 pull-ups with a personal best of 43.  Nice effort, but not quite there.  As a result, we are all looking forward to Marcus doing "Murph" (1 mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push ups, 300 squats, 1 mile run, all with a 20lb weight vest).

John tucks into today's WOD of 5 rounds; 10 Push-Ups/ 15 Sit-Ups/ 20 Kettlebell Swings/ 25 Box Jumps.

In CrossFit, as in life, there are consequences! http://www.crossfitorillia.ca/blog.php?id=7760

Unfortunately, Shawn did not reach his goal of 20 Double Unders by the 14th.  As a result, he faced his consequence (without complaining) of a 1km run in shorts.  No, he's not wearing a sweater;-)  Rob was a good sport and ran with him to get the money shots!

But, we did have some success today with Kim, Cam and Craig all completing Handstand Push-Ups.  Way to get it done under the wire!

Have you reached your goal? http://www.crossfitorillia.ca/blog.php?id=7719
Goal commitment
People will perform better when they are committed to achieve certain goals. Goal commitment is dependent of:
  1. The importance of the expected outcomes of goal attainment and;
  2. Self-efficacy - one's belief that they are able to achieve the goals;
  3. Commitment to others - promises or engagements to others can strongly improve commitment

Brian recently demonstrated his ability to reach a goal by setting a personal (and gym) record for his "CrossFit Total".  Brian reached a combined Back Squat/ Press/ Deadlift of 1010 lbs.  Next goal, muscle-ups or double-unders?
